This is where the Toce River, that big river that flows right next to Camping Village Conca D’Oro, has its source. This river flows more than 50 miles through the mountains collecting water from many streams on its way downstream.
Today we take you to the point where it was born and where everything has its origin: we go to Val Formazza and more precisely to Riale, its last hamlet at 1,740 meters above sea level.
The itinerary develops along well beaten and known paths, easy also for the youngest. The fil rouge of the entire route will be water: you will discover in our company and thanks to our guide how the water began to flow in these valleys and how man has exploited its energy to produce electricity, crucial to the economic and technological development of the region.
We will cross the imposing dam dating back to the 1930s: to build it, the ancient Walser hamlet of Morasco, dating back to the 15th century, was submerged.
We will relax with a glass of wine and listen to the wonderful stories of the past that echo through the valleys, telling the adventures of our ancestors who transformed the mountains into what we love and appreciate today.
